Well done everyone in Y5 with the StudyWiz, you can follow the link below to the site.

Please enjoy the games and learning on there, I am always updating and adding new learning.

Over the course of this term the children in Year 5 will focus upon the following:

Literacy:

Reading and writing will be based upon William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. This tragic tale of two star cross’d lovers whose deaths bring about the end of their families’ war is one of the best loved stories of all time.

Numeracy:

Alexander the Apothecary from Romeo and Juliet is looking for a new apprentice.  We have to show off our maths skills to help him.  Our Learning will be about rounding temperatures and decimals, storing Solids, liquids and gases for him and keeping timetables to record temperatures.

Have YOU got the ability to help him and become his apprentice? HAVE YOU?

We also have a HUGE Solids, liquids and gases project to embark on this half term that will finish off with an exhibition to show parents, teachers and other children.

PE: Dance - We are dancing as Solids, liquids and gases - using our science knowledge top show how they move (or don't), and act.

Our PE days are Monday (games) and Tuesday (Dance)

PLEASE make sure you have kit on these days

PE is fun, exciting and healthy!

WELL - it is when WE do it.

Good to be Green Awards:

Children earn green cards throughout their school day for things like good behaviour and making an extra special effort with their learning. For every 10 green cards that a child receives they earn an award.

Bronze for 10, silver for 20 and gold for 30.

When they have reached their gold award they then start for their second bronze award.

At then end of the year there are special awards with Miss Wittingham for those who have excelled in collecting green cards

At Manor Lodge, we value reading very highly, and the more you practise the better you get, so...

Every child has access to a home reading book in school and in y5 everyone has a reading record.

We would like it if each child could read to an adult at least once a day but understand that this is not always possible. Every time a child reads at home and brings back a signed reading record then they are given a sticker and a dot goes onto a chart in class.

Thanks for your continued support with reading, spelling, numeracy and other home learning.

In Year 5, we expect the children to take responsibility for their reading too; and unfortunately - if children haven't read then they will get a warning card.  If reading hasn't been done too many times, then they will get a consequence card.

Please encourage  children to read ANYTHING where they are enjoying and slightly challenged by the words.

Many thanks

Mr Howes

We are hopefully bringing more interactive games and home learning through a site called StudyWiz.  We'll keep you posted as to its development.
