Critical Incident Plan
Responsibilities and Organisation
The Headteacher or the Headteacher?s nominee will take charge of the incident on behalf of the school.The Critical Incident Team will consist of:
Headteacher (Cath Whittingham)
Deputy Headteacher (Bernie Watters)
Chair of Governors (Joanne Grenfell)
One other Governor
The Education Authority, comprising:
Sheffield CYPD Critical Incident Team
Sheffield CYPD support group
In the event of a major incident the following action is to be taken: Back to top
Immediate Action
On being alerted, the person who identifies the incident should notify the Headteacher (or her nominee) straight away. The Headteacher (or her nominee) will make an immediate assessment of the situation and, in the event of an emergency evacuation of the whole school e.g. as the result of a suspected gas leak, electrical failure, flooding or building collapse, the following action should be taken:- The alarm will sound to alert all staff
- The children and staff will evacuate school and assemble in classes at the bottom of the playground and a registration count will be taken
- Office staff will take the mobile phone outside and the relevant emergency services will be alerted
- If it is thought likely that the evacuation will continue for some considerable time, the whole school will walk to St Aidan?s Church and stay there until it is known to be safe to return to school or the children are collected by a responsible adult
- The Chair of Governors and the Sheffield CYPD Critical Incident Team will be informed
- Information will be received from the emergency services
- Local radio stations will be informed of the situation and asked to advise parents/carers where children can be collected from Back to top
Short Term/Medium Term Action
- Arrange briefings for pupils in small groups- Maintain the normal routine of the school as far as is possible
- Arrange transport as necessary to reunite children and parents/carers
- Arrange, with support from Sheffield CYPD, debriefs for pupils and any affected staff as soon as possible
- Arrange, with support from Sheffield CYPD, attendance at funerals and/or holding of a memorial service Back to top

- Assist pupils and staff to come back to school- Promote and support discussion in class, if deemed appropriate Back to top
